Engineering Pulleys

Sixth Class Experiment With Simple Machines
09-February-20
Engineering Pulleys

The boys in sixth class have been learning about simple machines over the past couple of weeks. Simple machines make the completion of tasks easier and include levers, gears and pulleys, the focus of our study last week.

The boys were tasked with designing a pulley system and on Friday, they pitted their machines against each other. The challenge was to build a pulley which gave them the greatest mechanical advantage when lifting a kilogram weight. This was measured using a spring scale, which recorded the amount of effort required to raise the weight.

There were some incredibly novel designs, many of which proved hugely effective in completing the given challenge. Well done engineers!
