6th Class Monoprinting

Printing from perspex for new perspectives!
22-May-18
6th Class Monoprinting

This fortnight, the boys in sixth class have been using the process of printing to create interesting pieces of art.

We started the process with each boy selecting a photograph they liked. This was affixed to the underside of a piece of perspex with some masking tape. They then painted onto the perspex, following the lines and shapes of their photograph. The desired effect was not to copy the photograph but, rather, to reinterpret it.

Once the paint was applied to the perspex, the boys carefully laid a sheet of paper or card over the perspex. A paint roller was then rolled over the paper/card to transfer as much paint as possible.

Later, we experimented with a more free-form version of the above, wherein the children applied paint to the perspex without the stimulus of a photograph. This resulted in many interesting and abstract paintings.
