Science in Senior Infants

Over the last 2 weeks we have been focusing work on the topic of water. One of the activities involved investigating to see whether or not certain materials were waterproof or not. First we used our knowledge of everyday situations to predict the results and then we had great fun experimenting.

You can also see some of our other experiments that we carried out during Science Week back in November. We watched how water travels through plants using celery and food dye. We also did an experiment to show that plants need water and light to grow. We put one hyacinth bulb in a cupboard with no water or light, we gave another lots of water but put it in cupboard too and the last one got plenty of water and light. We have loved watching the bulbs blooming into beautiful hyacinth flowers.

We also looked at heat transference in certain materials and again used our existing knowledge to cleverly precict our results.

We love getting hands-on experience and finding things out for ourselves!
